This collection consists primarily of issues of the Savannah Voter, a bulletin published by the local Savannah-Chatham County chapter of the League, and of the Georgia Voter, a bulletin published by the League of Women Voters of Georgia. The Savannah Voter appears to have been published monthly for most of its existence. The Georgia Voter was published six times a year on a bimonthly basis. Some issues of these bulletins are missing, and lists of these missing issues can be found in the first folder of each box. (Cont.) There is also a file of miscellaneous items which has a copy of the 1987-88 Governmental Directory, an annual publication by the League; a copy of the State Constitution of Georgia ratified in 1945; a 1964 report of the Juvenile Court Committee of the League; a 1978 report on the United Nations meeting; a press release; minutes of the December 1971 meeting; a brief history of the League; and documents about Georgia government. The last file in the collection contains duplicate copies of the Savannah Voter.

The League of Women Voters was founded in Savannah on May 6, 1920 by Miss Mildred Cunningham. The organization grew out of the Equal Suffrage Party of Chatham County that had worked for the passage of the 19th Amendment. The group held its first meeting at the public library in Savannah, and was originally known as the Savannah League of Women Voters.
